Serotonergic antidepressant use and the risk of fracture: a population-based nested case-control study.
Frequent usage of serotonergic antidepressants may heighten an individual's risk of experiencing fractures.
This study examined the use of serotonergic antidepressants in relation to the occurrence of fracture. Researchers compared the rate of occurrence of fracture between 8,250 patients on antidepressants and 33,000 healthy subjects.
Researchers found a high prevalence of fracture among users of serotonergic antidepressants compared to non-users of these medications. Evidence from this study show that regular intake of serotonergic antidepressants is tied to a high risk of fracture.
