Relationship between zolpidem use and stroke risk: a Taiwanese population-based case-control study.

Individuals taking zolpidem may be highly prone to suffering from ischemic stroke.

Zolpidem is one of the popular sleeping pills prescribed for individuals with insomnia. This study examined whether there is an association between the use of zolpidem and the tendency to suffer from a stroke attack. Researchers assessed data from more than 12,000 persons obtained from the Taiwanese National Health Insurance Research Database.

Researchers discovered that the odds of suffering from ischemic stroke increased with the usage of zolpidem. Evidence from this study suggest that frequent exposure to zolpidem may put an individual at high risk of experiencing a stroke attack.
