Dietary antioxidants associated with slower progression of parkinsonian signs in older adults
Cultivating the habit of eating foods loaded with antioxidants may hinder the manifestation and progression of symptoms of Parkinson's disease in older adults.
This study examined how frequent ingestion of antioxidant-rich foods influences the rate of progression of symptoms of Parkinson's disease in older adults. A total of 682 elderly men and women volunteered for this study and were assessed for the presence of Parkinson's disease signs and symptoms and their dietary choices.
Researchers discovered that compliance with diets high in antioxidant-ladened foods delayed the occurrence and worsening of symptoms of Parkinson's disease. "A higher level of dietary antioxidant nutrients may slow the rate of parkinsonian sign progression in older adults," the authors noted.
