High red and processed meat consumption is associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and insulin resistance
Red and processed meat lovers are liable to suffer from insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
This study examined if dietary ingestion of red and processed meat is tied to the development of insulin resistance (IR) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Researchers studied the submitted dietary questionnaires and health records of 789 men and women from Israel.
Researchers noted that habitual intake of red and processed meat favored the occurrence of insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. "High consumption of red and/or processed meat is associated with both NAFLD and IR," the authors concluded.
