Dietary cholesterol consumption and incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus: A dose-response meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

Habitual consumers of cholesterol-containing foods may be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus.

This study evaluated the dietary cholesterol-type 2 diabetes mellitus connection using a meta-analytic approach. Researchers analyzed data from 355,230 individuals who participated in 11 studies.

Researchers identified an unfavorable association between high dietary ingestion of cholesterol-rich foods and greater risk of type 2 diabetes. This meta-analysis points out the contribution of high cholesterol diet in the development of type 2 diabetes.
