Association of Marijuana Use and Cardiovascular Disease: A Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Data Analysis of 133,706 US Adults
Marijuana use may drive up the risk of developing stroke and myocardial infarction (coronary artery disease).
This study explored the connection between exposure to marijuana and the probability of developing cardiovascular disease. Researchers estimated the risk of developing cardiovascular disease between users and non-users of marijuana.
Researchers observed that the probability of acquiring stroke and myocardial infarction (coronary artery disease) went up as high as 81% and 88% respectively with regular usage of marijuana. This study strengthened the existing the evidence that smoking of marijuana may be harmful cardiovascular health.
