Association between meat and saturated fatty acid intake and lung cancer risk: The Japan Public Health Center-based prospective study
Fervent consumption of red and processed meats may prime cells in the lungs to become cancerous in men.
This study evaluated the consumption of fatty and meaty diet and its association with the development of lung cancer. Researchers used dietary information of over 70,000 Japanese men and women whose health were followed for a period of 16 years.
Researchers found an elevated risk of lung cancer among men, but not in women, who loved eating red and processed meats. This study concluded that increased intake of red and processed meats may spur the development of lung cancer in men.
