Dietary patterns and risk of colorectal cancer in Tehran Province: a case-control study.
Eating healthy foods may cut down colorectal cancer risk.
This study investigated the role diets play in the development of colorectal cancer. Using validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires, researchers examined the nutrition data of 203 subjects obtained from 4 hospitals in Tehran. The colorectal cancer hazard ratio of each participant in this study was also determined.
Researchers observed a low incidence of colorectal cancer among subjects who strictly followed a healthy dietary pattern. High consumption of western diets was found to increase colorectal cancer risk in this study. The findings of this study support the theory that western dietary patterns may contribute significantly to the development of colorectal cancer.
