Sugary drink consumption and risk of kidney and bladder cancer in Japanese adults
Upping the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages may make women more vulnerable to developing kidney and bladder cancer.
This study reviewed how regular drinking of sugary beverages can impact an individual's risk of having cancer of the kidney and bladder. Researchers surveyed the sugary drink consumption habits and health of 73,024 Japanese men and women. During the course of the study, 169 and 297 cases of kidney and bladder cancer respectively were recorded among the participants.
Researchers identified an 11% increase in both kidney and bladder cancer in women who are frequent consumers of sugar-sweetened beverages. This study affirmed the hypothesis that likeness for sugary beverages may favor the development of kidney and bladder cancer in women.
