Children with elevated intake of sugary beverages may have a high tendency to display hyperactive behaviors.

This study evaluated the ingestion of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) in relation to the development of hyperactivity in children. Researchers matched sugary beverage intake levels with the presence of hyperactive behaviors in 6,541 Chinese school children within the age bracket of 6-12 years.

Researchers observed that parents and teachers reported hyperactive behaviors in children who enjoyed drinking sugary beverages. This study highlighted the role sugar-sweetened beverages play in the development of hyperactivity in children.
