Light and moderate intake of alcohol may increase the risk of different types of cancer, including prostate, breast, gastrointestinal, and aerodigestive cancers.

This study assessed how light and moderate drinking of alcohol influences the risk of cancer. Researchers from Japan studied the alcohol consumption patterns of 63,232 cancer patients and another 63,232 persons without the disease over a 10-year period. 

Researchers discovered that light and moderate consumption of alcohol boosted the odds of developing several types of cancer, including breast, prostate, gastrointestinal, and aerodigestive cancer. This 2019 study of Japanese men documented a harmful association between light and moderate consumption of alcohol and cancer risk.
