Habitual drinking of caffeinated beverages may promote the formation of kidney stones repeatedly in adults.

This study focused on whether high dietary exposure to caffeinated beverages, such as coffee, is tied to the recurrence of kidney stones in adults. Data on the caffeine intake levels and the occurrence and recurrence of kidney stones were obtained from the 2007-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Researchers noticed that passionate consumers of caffeine-containing drinks were more likely to suffer from kidney stones over and over again than their counterparts who avoided these products. The results of this study show that fondness for caffeinated beverages may favor the re-occurrence of kidney stones.
