An individual's love for alcohol may make him/her highly prone to suffering from Dupuytren's disease.

Dupuytren's disease (DD), also known as Dupuytren's contracture, Viking disease, or palmar fibromatosis, is a condition that results in progressive thickening and tightening of the tissues under the palm, making the fingers to bend towards the palm. This study investigated if cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking is tied to the occurrence of Dupuytren's disease. Researchers matched smoking and alcohol intake habits with Dupuytren's disease diagnosis status in a large number of participants.

Researchers found out that participants in the alcohol consumption group tend to have elevated risk of developing Dupuytren's contracture. "This is the first study to prove that drinking alcohol could cause DD.," the authors noted.
