Necrotizing fasciitis may have a high tendency to occur among individuals with alcohol use disorders.

This study examined whether an association exists between alcohol abuse and the likelihood of contracting necrotizing fasciitis. Researchers collected and evaluated data on the alcohol drinking habits and health of more 250,000 Chinese men and women.

Researchers noticed that alcohol abusers were 3.55 times more likely to suffer from necrotizing fasciitis than their colleagues who abstained from alcohol use. This study strengthened the hypothesis that alcohol misuse may increase an individual's susceptibility to necrotizing fasciitis.
