A healthy cholesterol number is associated with frequent consumption of non-soy legumes.
This study was carried out to determine the effect of high dietary ingestion of non-soy legumes on plasma levels of cholesterol. Data obtained from 10 randomized clinical trials that studied more than 268 subjects were reviewed in this meta-analysis.
Researchers discovered that generous intake of non-soy legumes lowered the amounts of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) and total cholesterol floating in the blood. The findings of this study indicate that diets high in non-soy legumes may help to maintain plasma levels of cholesterol with the healthy range.
