Ultra-Processed Foods and Human Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies

Preference for ultra-processed foods may promote the development of several chronic diseases, including obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

​This study synthesized findings from past studies that analyzed the impact of high dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods on the burden of chronic diseases. Researchers sifted through data extracted from 25 studies. 

Researchers identified a surge in the incidence of obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes among devout consumers of ultra-processed foods. This study strengthens the body of evidence supporting the detrimental effects of ultra-processed foods on human health.
