Impact of smoking on urologic cancers: a snapshot of current evidence

Smoking may be a potent risk factor for urologic cancers, including bladder, renal, prostate, and upper tract urothelial cancer (UTUC).

This study evaluated the chances that smokers will develop urologic cancers, such as prostate, bladder, renal (kidney), and upper tract urothelial cancer (UTUC). Researchers compiled data from eligible studies published on PubMed from its inception to September 1, 2022.

Researchers found out that aggressive forms of bladder, kidney, prostate, and upper tract urothelial cancer are highly likely to occur and even re-occur in smokers. This study concluded that smoking may contribute significantly to the development, spread, and mortality from urologic cancers.
