Men who habitual consumers of coffee may have a higher propensity to develop osteoarthritis of the knee joint compared to their counterparts who refrained from drinking coffee.

This study assessed the correlation between regular consumption of coffee and the prevalence of knee osteoarthritis in Korean men and women. Researchers compared coffee drinking habits with incidence of knee osteoarthritis among 2,302 men and women who enrolled in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Researchers found high rates of knee osteoarthritis among men who consumed more than 7 cups of coffee per day. The results of this study suggest that fondness for coffee may raise the risk of knee osteoarthritis in men.
