Strict adherence to a healthy plant-based diet may help to not only offer significant protection against chronic diseases but also add a few more years to the lifespan of older adults.
This study evaluated whether higher intake of healthy plant foods is tied to lower risk of developing and dying from chronic diseases in older adults. Researchers monitored for a 10-year period the nutritional habits, health status, and mortality records of more than 2,500 Chinese men and women aged 100 years and above.
Researchers discovered that eating healthy plant foods reduced the likelihood of suffering from chronic diseases and premature deaths among study participants. Promoting the consumption of healthy plant foods may help prevent the occurrence of chronic diseases and further extend the lifespan of older individuals.
