This study investigated the relationship between the intake of vegetables and the prevalence of chronic diseases. Researchers utilized data and evidence obtained from 46,693 adolescents and adults residing in Italy.
Researchers found out that habitual consumption of vegetables decreased the risk of developing several chronic diseases, including arthritis, gallstones, kidney stones, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, bronchial asthma, liver cirrhosis, chronic bronchitis, and peptic ulcer. This study provides evidence that following a high vegetable diet may confer an individual with significant protection against different chronic diseases.
