Habitual intake of artificially-sweetened beverages may confer an individual with high risk of developing obesity-related cancers, such as colorectal and breast cancer.

This study set out to seek for further evidence linking the consumption of artificially-sweetened beverages (ASBs) with the development of obesity-related cancers, such as colorectal and breast cancer. Nearly 3 million men and women enrolled for this study and provided information about their dietary habits and health.

Researchers found a strong connection between regular drinking of artificially sweetened beverages and heightened risk of breast and colorectal cancer. This study adds to the long list of studies supporting the cancer-promoting actions of artificially-sweetened beverages.
