Association of Strawberries and Anthocyanidin Intake with Alzheimer's Dementia Risk

Elevated intake of strawberries and other foods loaded with anthocyanidin, flavonoids, vitamin C, and pelargonidin, may help halt the onset of Alzheimer's dementia.

This study quantified the risk of Alzheimer's dementia according to the level of consumption of strawberries and other foods rich in anthocyanidin, flavonoids, vitamin C, and pelargonidin. Researchers tracked the diets and health of 925 men and women for nearly 7 years. During the course of the study, 245 participants were diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia.

Researchers noticed a 24-37% reduction in the risk of Alzheimer's dementia among consumers of straw berries and other foods high in anthocyanidin, flavonoids, vitamin C, and pelargonidin. This study offered additional evidence supporting the protective effects of strawberries and other foods packed with anthocyanidin, flavonoids, vitamin C, and pelargonidin against Alzheimer's dementia.
