I was reading the recently posted article on Leaky Gut. The article referenced Dr. Joel Fuhrman and his success in helping patients with autoimmune diseases. I just finished reading a position paper by him in which he includes fish oil supplementation for EPA and DHA fatty acids.

What are your thoughts on this? I do not feel right about taking fish oil for therapy. Is there another plant-based source that would suffice?

So sorry to have had no answer posted yet to this question. The answer is that the best source is leafy green vegetables. Another answer is that seaweed is a good source. When you think about it the fish got from a similar source as us. Basically leafy green plants. :-)

Here is a good little web page on the subject: https://www.peta.org/living/food/vegan-recipes-packed-with-omega-3s/

I do not recommend omega -3 pills for most patients, although certain medical conditions require it.

Eating a very low-fat diet oil-free WFPB diet will rebalance most people's omega 6 bringing it down so that omega 3 can be better absorbed from leafy greens.

Best Wishes,

Dr. Carney
