Whole grain intake and incident endometrial cancer: the Iowa Women's Health Study.

Ingesting large servings of whole grains may help fend off endometrial cancer in women who have never been on hormone replacement therapy.

This study explored the relationship between the intake of whole grains and the risk of having endometrial cancer. The study population consisted of 23,014 women between the ages of 55 and 69 years who supplied dietary information via validated food frequency questionnaires.

Researchers discovered that as the rate of whole grain consumption increased, the risk of endometrial cancer declined in women were never on hormone replacement therapy. This 2001 study of American women documented a protective association between high dietary intake of whole grains and endometrial cancer among never-users of hormone replacement therapy.
