Sticking to a plant-based diet may improve a woman's chances of avoiding gestational diabetes mellitus.

This research work studied the association between adherence to a plant-based diet and the probability of developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a study group comprising of 15,999 women who had at least one pregnancy. Researchers followed all the participants for an average of 10 years. 

Researchers noticed that the higher the compliance to a plant-based diet, the better protected a woman is from gestational diabetes mellitus. This study highlights the importance of plant-based diet in the prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus.
