Whole food plant-based diet can help to reverse and treat heart failure and type 2 diabetes without the use of medications.

‚ÄčThis research work studied whether a plant-based diet can reverse heart failure without medications. A team of US doctors replaced the Western diet of 54-year old female patient diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, grade 3 obesity, and heart failure with depressed left ventricular systolic function with whole food plant-based diet (WFPB).

After five and a half months of adhering to the whole food plant-based diet, the patient lost 22.7 kg, normalized her left ventricular function, and reversed her type 2 diabetes and heart failure without the use of drugs. This case report adds to the evidence that the use of only whole food plant-based diets without medications may be effective in the treatment and reversal of heart failure and type 2 diabetes.
