​Following a plant-based diet may help to curb the development of colorectal cancer.

​This study assessed how dietary choices affect the likelihood of getting colorectal cancer. Researchers monitored the dietary habits of 506 colorectal cancer patients and 673 healthy subjects who were within the age bracket of 20-74 years and recruited from the Canadian population.

Researchers discovered that adherence to a plant-based diet reduced the risk of colorectal cancer significantly. On the other hand, diets that encourage the intake of meat and sugary foods was found to elevate the likelihood of colorectal cancer occurrence in this study. The authors recommend the formulation of policies that promote the consumption of healthy plant foods as part of the preventive measures for colorectal cancer.
