Vegetarian diets may confer individuals with significant protection against gout.

​The purpose of this study was to confirm the protective effects of vegetarian diets against gout. Researchers collated and analyzed data on the dietary patterns and rate of occurrence of gout in a study population comprising of over 13,000 Taiwanese men and women. 

The research team noted that adherence to a vegetarian diet resulted in lower risk of gout. This study provides material evidence that following a vegetarian dietary pattern may help fend off gout in men and women.
