The Risk of Urinary Tract Infection in Vegetarians and Non-Vegetarians: A Prospective Study

Strict adherence to a vegetarian diet may confer an individual with significant protection against urinary tract infections.

This study examined the impact of dietary choices on the risk of contracting urinary tract infections (UTIs). Researchers collated a 10-year data on the dietary pattern and occurrence of urinary tract infections in a study group comprising of 9724 Taiwanese men and women.

Researchers noticed that vegetarians were less likely to contract urinary tract infections than non-vegetarians. A 16% reduction in the odds of acquiring urinary tract infections was associated with vegetarian diets in this study. The findings of this study emphasize the importance of vegetarian diets in the prevention of urinary tract infections.
