Likeness for garlic may help to extend the lifespan of an elderly individual.

This study evaluated the correlation between garlic consumption and total mortality risk among elderly persons. Researchers monitored the diets and mortality records of 27,437 Chinese men and women aged 80 years and above for period of 16 years. During the course of the study, 22,321 deaths were recorded. 

Researchers found out that participants who consumed garlic at least once per week lived longer than their counterparts who ate fewer amounts of garlic. This study emphasizes the importance of garlic in promoting longevity among elderly persons.
