Generous consumption of foods containing glucosinolates may help lessen the risk of prostate cancer.

​Glucosinolates are phytochemicals found in plants, such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and kale that belong to the cruciferous vegetable (brassicaceae) family. This study examined how dietary exposure to glucosinolate influences the risk of acquiring prostate cancer. A group of German scientists studied the dietary and health records of 11,405 men recruited from the EPIC-Helderberg cohort. 

The team of researchers observed that a decline in the risk of prostate cancer was associated with increased intake of foods rich in glucosinolates. The results of this study reveal that habitual consumption of foods packed with glucosinolates may exert a protective effect against prostate cancer.
