​Fondness for sugar-sweetened beverages may be tied to higher probability of breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

​This research work studied the connection between the frequency of consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and the onset of breast cancer. Researchers tracked the beverage drinking habits and rate of diagnosis of breast cancer in a study population comprising of 10,713 middle-aged Spanish women. 

Researchers noted that the higher the frequency of consumption of sugary beverages, the greater the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. This study provides evidence that high intake of sugar-sweetened beverages may increase the likelihood of breast cancer occurring in postmenopausal women.
