Consumption of sugary foods and drinks and risk of endometrial cancer.

A significant increase in the risk of endometrial cancer is associated with habitual consumption of sugar-sweetened foods and drinks.

This study looked at how preference for foods and drinks high in added sugar affects a woman's risk of having endometrial cancer. A group of US researchers studied the dietary and health records of 424 patients with endometrial cancer and 398 healthy women.

The research team discovered that women who consumed the most amounts of sugary foods and drinks had high probability of acquiring endometrial cancer compared to their counterparts who refrained from taking these foods. This study provides evidence that following a diet rich in foods and drinks packed with added sugar may put a woman on the path to developing endometrial cancer.
