Sticking to a high salt diet may put an individual at high risk of acquiring stomach cancer.

This study investigated the hypothesis that highly salted foods promote the development of gastric (stomach) cancer. More than 2 million Korean men and women enrolled for this study and provided information about their diet and health over a 7-year period.

Researchers noted that stomach cancer was diagnosed at a greater rate among followers of diets rich in salty foods. The data from this study reveal that regular consumers of salty foods may be highly liable to suffer from gastric cancer.
