Indulgence in fast foods may make children and adolescents more prone to having asthma, eczema, and rhinoconjunctivitis.

This study seeks to investigate the connection between dietary habits and the odds of developing asthma, eczema, and rhinoconjunctivitis in children and adolescents. Researchers assessed the responses to written questionnaires on dietary choices and frequency of occurrence of symptoms of asthma, eczema, and rhinoconjunctivitis completed by adolescents aged 13-14 years and parents/guardians of children aged 6-7 years.

Researchers found out that participants who consumed fast foods 3 or more times per week had heightened risk of developing severe asthma, eczema, and rhinoconjunctivitis. On the other hand, adopting a habit of eating fruits 3 or more times per week was found to protect children and adolescents against rhinoconjunctivitis, asthma, and eczema in this study. The results of this study show that the love for fast foods may put children and adolescents on the path to developing asthma, eczema, and rhinoconjunctivitis.
