Frequency of nut consumption and mortality risk in the PREDIMED nutrition intervention trial.

High consumers of nuts are less likely to die from chronic diseases, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.

This study evaluated the relationship between nut intake and mortality risk. Researchers examined dietary data and mortality records of 7,216 Spanish men and women between the ages of 55-80 years. They discovered that regular consumption of 3 or more servings of nuts per week decreased the risk of dying from chronic diseases, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, by 39%. The findings of this study reveal that generous intake of nuts may significantly cut down mortality risk.
