Association Between Regular Electronic Nicotine Product Use and Self-reported Periodontal Disease Status: Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Survey

The odds of developing periodontal disease may be high among users of e-cigarettes, marijuana, and other illicit drugs.

This study looked at the association between the use of e-cigarettes, marijuana, and other illicit drugs and the tendency to develop periodontal disease. Researchers charted usage of e-cigarette, marijuana, and other illicit drugs against self-reported cases of periodontal disease. 

Researchers discovered that users of e-cigarettes were more prone to suffer from periodontal disease. In addition, the intake of marijuana and other illicit drugs was found to also raise the risk of periodontal disease in this study. Data from this study show that the use of e-cigarettes, marijuana, and other illicit drugs may have a detrimental effect on oral health.
