Generous consumption of fiber from whole grains may be beneficial in the prevention of colorectal cancer.

This study analyzed the correlation between dietary intake of fiber from whole grains and the odds of developing colorectal cancer. Researchers assessed the dietary habits of 468,794 healthy US men and women and 10,200 patients with colorectal cancer over a 16-year period.

Researchers noticed that high consumers of fiber from whole grains enjoyed a significant reduction in colorectal cancer risk. This study suggests that dietary interventions that promote the consumption of whole grains may prove effective in colorectal cancer prevention.
