Incorporating more high fiber foods to our diet may protect us from cardio-metabolic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular ailments.

This study investigated the hypothesis that a decline in the risk of cardio-metabolic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, is associated with high intake of fiber-ladened foods. Researchers looked at data on the dietary habits and incidence of cardio-metabolic ailments among individuals from Ghana, Jamaica, Seychelles, and the United States.

Data analysis revealed that participants on the top of the dietary fiber consumption ladder had the lowest chances of acquiring a cardio-metabolic disease. The findings of this study support the consumption of fiber-rich foods as part of dietary intervention to  combat the rising rates of cardio-metabolic diseases.
