High dietary ingestion of fiber-containing foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and potatoes, may help to ward off diverticular disease in women.

​The aim of this study was to determine the role high-fiber diets play in the prevention of diverticular disease in women. A group of researchers from the University of Oxford, UK, collated and analyzed data on the fiber intake and incidence rates of diverticular disease among of 690,075 UK women recruited from the Million Women Study . 

The research team observed that women who consumed generous amounts of fiber-rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and potatoes, were less prone to suffer from diverticular diseases than their peers who ate little or completely avoided these plant foods. The findings of this study reveal that regular intake of high-fiber foods may confer women with significant protection against diverticular disease.
