Following a high-fiber diet may help to ward off breast cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women.

This research work studied the connection between high dietary ingestion of fiber and the odds of receiving a diagnosis of breast cancer. Researchers compared dietary fiber intake levels among 450 healthy Australian women and another 450 women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Researchers observed that the likelihood of being diagnosed with breast cancer was low among premenopausal and postmenopausal women who enjoyed consuming high-fiber foods. "The study provides strong support for recent conjecture that foods rich in dietary fiber may be protective against breast cancer," the authors concluded.
