Higher intake of cereal fiber may correlate with lower risk of gastric and esophageal cancer.

​The purpose of this study was to confirm the protective effects of dietary fiber against the development of cancerous cells and tumors in the esophagus and stomach. Researchers from the United States looked at the dietary and clinical data of more than 1,500 individuals who participated in a large-scale population-based case-control study conducted in Los Angeles County. 

The team of experts found out that increased intake of fiber from dietary sources improved an individual's chances of preventing esophageal and gastric cancer. The results of this study demonstrate that a diet rich in fiber may help to halt the formation of cancerous cells and tumors in the esophagus and stomach.
