Older women who eat a lot of whole grains regularly may have low probability of dying prematurely.

This study examined how high dietary intake of fiber from grains affects mortality risk in older women. Researchers from University of Minnesota, USA, tracked the diets and mortality records of 11,040 postmenopausal American women over an 11-year period. 

The team of investigators observed that women who consumed high amounts of fiber from whole grains were less likely to suffer from premature deaths than their counterparts who ate predominantly fiber from refined grains. This study highlights the beneficial role high whole grain diet plays in lowering mortality risk in older women.
