Eating more high-fiber foods may make the occurrence of colorectal cancer less likely.

​This study investigated the link between high dietary exposure to fiber and the tendency to develop colorectal cancer. Researchers analyzed data from more than 4,000 individuals who completed a dietary questionnaire. 

Researchers found out that greater consumption of fiber from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains slashed the risk of having cancer of the colon. However, only fiber from cereals was found to have protective effects against rectal cancer. This 2012 study of European men and women reveals that indulging in foods high in fiber may play a significant role in preventing colorectal cancer.
