Generous intake of high-fiber diets may help to thwart the development of asymptomatic diverticular disease of the colon.

This study evaluated the consumption of fiber-containing foods in relation to the onset of asymptomatic diverticular disease of the colon. Researchers from the United Kingdom analyzed the diets and rate of occurrence of asymptomatic diverticular disease using questionnaires and imaging studies respectively.

The team of experts found an inverse association between the frequency of consumption of dietary fiber and the risk of getting asymptomatic diverticular disease. Data from this study support the notion that higher intake of fiber-rich foods may help to cut down the incidence of asymptomatic diverticular disease of the colon in the general population.
