Increased intake of fiber-containing foods may help curb the onset of depression in premenopausal women.

This study examined whether a high fiber diet can help fight off depression in premenopausal women. Researchers compared dietary intake of fiber with the presence of depressive symptoms among 3,054 women. 

Researchers noticed that the tendency of premenopausal women who were high consumers of fiber-rich foods to suffer from depression was low. This study strengthens the body of evidence supporting the protective effect of dietary fiber against depression in premenopausal women.
