Individuals who enjoy taking hot green tea may be highly susceptible to gastric (stomach) cancer.

This study looked at how regular intake of green tea influences an individual's chances of developing gastric (stomach) cancer. Researchers monitored the green tea drinking habits and the number of individuals diagnosed with gastric cancer in a study group made up of 400 Chinese men and women.

Researchers noted that habitual drinking of hot green tea elevated the risk of having stomach cancer, particularly among alcohol consumers and cigarette smokers. This study provides evidence that frequent drinking of green tea at high temperature may spur the development of gastric cancer.
