Prophylaxis of Non-communicable Diseases: Why Fruits and Vegetables may be Better Chemopreventive Agents than Dietary Supplements Based on Isolated Phytochemicals?

Greater intake of fruits and vegetables compared to the consumption of dietary supplements may be more beneficial in protecting men and women against chronic diseases.

This research work studied the chronic disease prevention benefits offered by fruits, vegetables, and dietary supplements. Researchers made use of data from relevant scientific publications. 

Researchers found out that consistent consumers of fruits and vegetables had better chances of enjoying a life devoid of chronic diseases than their counterparts who took dietary supplements. This study suggested that habitual ingestion of a variety of fruits and vegetables may be superior to dietary supplements in fighting off chronic diseases.
