Daily consumption of more than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables may help an individual to maintain a healthy weight.

This study evaluated the impact of high fruit and vegetable diets on body mass index (BMI). More than 400,000 US men and women participated in this study and their dietary choices and weight were assessed throughout the study period.

Researchers noticed individuals that had healthier weight consumed more than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day compared to their overweight and obese counterparts who ate lesser amounts of these plant foods daily. This study provides evidence that low consumption of fruits and vegetables is tied to higher risk of being overweight and obese.
