Preference for raw fruits and vegetables over processed ones may help to improve mental health and protect against anxiety and depression in young adults.

This study compared the impact frequent intake of raw and processed fruits and vegetables has on the mental health of young adults. Researchers used questionnaires to evaluate the dietary choices and mental health status of 422 young adults aged 18-25 residing in the United States and New Zealand.

Researchers observed better mood and lesser chances of suffering from anxiety and depression in individuals who preferred consuming raw fruits and vegetable to processed vegetables and fruits. This study strengthened the body of evidence supporting the hypothesis that indulgence in raw fruits and vegetables may have a positive impact on mental health.
